One of the biggest advantages of living in the Los Angeles area is the ability to experience many different events from cultures all over the world. This is especially true during the holiday season when Los Angeles events celebrate everything from Christmas and Hanukah to the Chinese New Year.
Whether you’re looking to take your out of town guests to do something they can’t do at home, or just get into the holiday mood, you’ll find something nearby to enjoy. Here are our recommendations for Los Angeles events you should check out this winter:
A unique experience designed for social media enthusiasts and art lovers alike, Partywith is a collection of 15 different themed areas made to visually dazzle you. If you have friends and family in from other parts of the country, this is a chance for them to see something they aren’t likely to see at home, and document it all over Instagram.
Partywith features what are known as dreamscape installations, featuring neon signs, an infinity rainbow, a giant eggplant, and more unique spaces are the perfect places to take photos for social media sharing. If you prefer to disconnect for a while, the exhibit offers Polaroid cameras to all guests on a first come, first served basis so you can snap photos the old fashioned way as you walk through. The exhibit is open nightly from November 22 to the 26th.
Over 1,000 light installations come together in a more traditional atmosphere at the Chinese Lantern Festival in Pomona. Handcrafted to look like birds of nature, some of the lanterns measure over twenty feet tall. Following a theme that celebrates the distinct areas of the world, the lanterns reflect significant parts of culture from each continent.
Suitable for family members of all ages, The lantern festival lasts until January. It’s also open on all major holidays, in case you need to get out of the house and walk off the calories from a holiday meal or get some personal space after a stressful Christmas.
One of the best known Los Angeles holiday events, Descanso Garden’s light installation is perfect for those who want to avoid over the top holiday displays set to Christmas Carols. The forest is lit with beautiful colors and neon highlights that make it relaxing and exciting at the same time.
The one-mile walking path passes by multiple large-scale light displays, many of them built with interactive components to dazzle children and adults alike. The exhibit is open nightly until early January, and visitors are welcome rain or shine.
